Waimea invited to participate in principal recruitment survey
As a follow-up to recent meetings with Waimea Middle School’s families and community, the public conversion charter school’s not-for-profit Local School Board Hookakoo Corp. is seeking input to assist in assessing the competencies and qualifications of candidates for leadership of Waimea Middle School. This input will be a critical component of the search process for the school’s next principal.
“Our commitment is to seek the best balance between work experience, education and preparation, personal qualities, role expectations of the principal, and the ability to respond to the community’s educational needs and aspirations. We would appreciate your feedback on these attributes as well,” Hookakoo Corp. Executive Director Megan McCorriston said.
All input is anonymous and confidential. Please use the following web link to complete the survey: surveymokey.com/s/principalqualities. The closing date for completed surveys is Tuesday.
For those who do not have Internet access and would like to participate in the survey, contact Patti Cook at 937-2833 or visit the Waimea Middle School office.
Scholarships available to attend youth leadership academy
Twenty-five scholarships to attend the Youth Leadership Empowerment Academy are available to residents of the neighbor islands. These scholarships cover airfare, transportation to and from the airport, overnight hotel accommodations and two days complimentary access to the Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity, with breakfast and lunch at the conference.
The YLEA is designed to help our young people brainstorm their ideas for the future and share their visions with their peers. This academy is a great stepping-stone for generating positive change. Participants are asked to become mentors and advocates for equality and to help erase the stigma of mental illness.
The YLEA is being held in conjunction with the PacRim Conference on March 26 and 27 and features over 200 presentations. The entire scholarship package is valued at over $600.
One adult chaperone can be accommodated for organizations with at least three attendees.
Registration is required and the deadline is Saturday. Access the form at cds.hawaii.edu/livingtoourpotential.
